What's everyone's opinion of the US version of K & K that is due to be shown (I think) around October this year? I personally find it interesting that they have to make an American version and not air the original Aussie version.
I suppose it would be too much to ask for them to show the original (and best) version. I have friends who are American (living in America) and they would love to see more television shows from overseas, but their major networks keep making local American versions because they think that Americans only want to see Americans on television, which quite often is true, but if they don't ever get to see anything else, how do they really know what the viewers will accept? Apparently the original K & K has been aired on a cable network in America and it developed a bit of a cult following for those who saw it. So it proves that there would be a market for the original versions of overseas shows. Molly Shannon will play Kath and Selma Blair will play Kim. I don't know much about Selma, but Molly Shannon would have to be one of the unfunniest comedians in America (IMO). What I've seen of her is totally over the top and she just doesn't have the right style to play Kath. Jane Turner plays Kath in an understated dead pan way. She doesn't overplay the character like I think Molly will do. Jane plays it straight and allows the situation to be what is hilarious. . |
